New Casa

Our original plan of buying a fixer-upper flew out the window when this guy came on the market last Wednesday night. After months of searching and no luck, we jumped on it. Luckily they accepted our offer and now the countdown to no more teeny apartment living begins! The funniest thing is that it's in the exact same neighborhood where Michael grew-up. And the sellers are family friends and were at our wedding. Crazy. We drove through today and Michael pointed out all the good spots - like the secret path to the creek and the best sledding hill. Ready for this new adventure!

Check-out that awesome paneling on the fridge!

True Heroines

Hello. I am still alive. You may have seen this floating around the internets, but I had to share.

From Jezbel:
"When Austin-based photographer Jaime Moore was deciding how to snap photos of her daughter Emma to remember her 5th birthday, she combed the Internet for visual inspiration — and, naturally, came across a ton of young girls dressed up like Disney princess on their birthdays.

"It started me thinking about all the REAL women for my daughter to know about and look up to, REAL women who without ever meeting Emma have changed her life for the better." So she chose iconic photographs of five such inspirational women and snapped similar portraits of Emma."

No Words

From my sister:

Running the Boston Marathon last year was one of the best experiences of my life. Along with 27,000 other runners we started our journey into Boston. On every inch of the course there were rows of fans handing out their own supplies of water and fruit and much needed encouragement. If you’ve ever run a race before you can imagine how amazing it would be if for every second of a race you have hundreds of people cheering for you. I was especially blessed to have both my parents and my boyfriend there. They jumped from train to train to cheer for me at different locations throughout the race. When I finally saw the finish line there were thousands and thousands of people cheering and clapping, giving me a final burst of energy to cross the finish. It is such a joyful time, where people from all over the world come together and are welcomed whole-heartedly by the citizens of Boston. It breaks my heart that this celebration was ruined today. That innocent, selfless people were injured and killed as they cheered on runners at their wit’s end. The people of Boston and all of the runners are in my thoughts and prayers today.

Humble Abode

I'm sure you have been dying to see pics of our apartment. Today I grant your wish. If you're lucky, I'll soon post pictures of the apartment grounds. Those shall be quite entertaining.

The living room:
As you can tell, we've put a lot of effort into the wall decor.

The bedroom/bike storage room:

Bedroom shot two. Notice overly stuffed closets. Mine in particular.

Best bathroom a gal could hope for!
Totally kidding. The bathroom is the pits. The toilet water basically jumps up at you when you pee (and uses about 20 gallons per flush) and the shower bleeds black and brown specks.

The bathroom closet. Which also serves as a pantry. And mudroom. And shed.

The best part about the kitchen is that when cooking, you never have to move your feet. Everything is within an arm's reach:
The worst part of the kitchen is the lack of a microwave. And storage space. And counter space. And fridge space. And trashcan storage space. And an oven that makes no noise so is easily left-on overnight. That happened. Twice. Don't worry, I'm still alive.

The office:

Which magically transforms into the dining room!
  How fun is that?!

Peruvian Bliss

I thought it was fate when I opened my latest Traditional Home to find a new boutique hotel in Cusco, where we just happen to be headed next week. And then I found that the room start at $550/night. As I am gazing at the stars from my tent on the trail, I will dream of snoozing poolside here:

Week One

During the first couple of days at the apartment we have discovered the:

  • AC unit rattles like thunder. To hear one another, we must be within 5 feet.
  • Dishwasher rattles like thunder. To hear one another, we must be within 5 feet.
  • Smoke alarm goes off quite often. After every cooking attempt to be exact.
  • Shower head reaches my chin. If that. Therefore, I get my daily practice at the limbo.
  • Shower crevices spit out strange black and brown specks.
  • Apartment reception smells like a tanning bed. Free tans for all tenants perhaps?
  • Lack of washer and dryer is not so fun.
  • Lack of microwave makes reheating meals inventive.
But you know what the good part is? We get to spend lots of quality time together in our close quarters. And getting our new house is going to be that much more rewarding.

Daydreaming

Since I have no house to work on, I will simply dream of others.
