Firetruck Red

After just about 3 weeks of lounging around naked, the cornice frame finally has some clothes.

Covering a Cornice

1. Determine what section of your beautiful fabric will have to be cut out.

2. Mark straight lines on fabric. This step literally took me about an hour.

3. Ever so carefully, cut fabric.

4. Get to stapling. Either be careful or spend a couple of weeks working on your shoulder strength before attempting this step. I kid you not, I am still sore in my right arm from this step (which Michael attributed to my insufficient shoulder routine at the gym).

5. Obtain advertising dollars from staple-gun company.

6. Draw lines on excess fabric for welting and cut (I used 3" wide pieces, but definitely didn't need quite that much).

7. Sew cording into fabric for welting using a zipper foot on your sewing machine. The last cornice, I did it the 'professional way' and sewed 'on the bias'. This involved many more steps and a lot more time. Due to my lack of patience, I prefer way #2.

8. Attach welting with your handy-dandy staple gun.

9. Attach backing fabric. You can use the same fabric as you did for the face, but its cheaper to just go buy some plain, white fabric to use:

10. Your backing fabric should be wrinkle-free, unlike mine. I'm assuming this takes practice.
