Sewing lingo learn #234: a 'cover button' is not a regular button that you simply cover. I realized this after I bought 4 regular buttons and tried to cover them with fabric. Phone calls to 5 fabric/craft stores later, I found the coveted '2.5 inch cover buttons':

Thank you Hancock Fabrics
This was the most fun part of the whole project. Most likely because no sewing was involved.

Newly covered buttons attached to skirt:

All nice and snug:

Ta-da!

All happy in its new home:

And yet another close-up:

Things I did differently from original pattern:
- Used a quilted fabric instead of wool blend felt
- Did not use interfacing (This was the most expensive piece of the project. Lucky for me, Walmart actually takes cut fabric back.)
- You-tube for endless patience while teaching me what the heck things like: backstitch, cross stitch, edge stitch, cover button, top stitch, machine baste, slip stitch, seam allowance and clip mean in sew lingo.
- My mother in law for lending me her old sewing machine.
- My mother and husband for not allowing me to 'throw the whole stupid project in the trash' no matter how many times I said I was going to.
